How to Know If Your Child Is Ready for Sports Camp

You might be wondering wether or not you should sign your child up for a sports camp this summer. Are they ready for it? Will they love it? Will it build their confidence? Or is it too soon? We get it! It can be a tricky moment figuring out if sending them somewhere new and unfamiliar is the right move. With seven of our own kids we're constantly navigating these things ourselves.

Whether your child is naturally athletic or just starting to dip their toes into organized sports, knowing if they’re ready can feel like a big decision. The good news? You don’t have to have it all figured out—we’re here to help.

To help ease the nerves or answer some questions you might be thinking we came up with a few ways to help navigate if this could be the next good move for your kiddo.

5 Signs Your Child Might Be Ready:

1. They’re showing interest in playing sports.
If your child keeps asking to kick the soccer ball outside, wants to play catch, or is glued to watching sports on TV—they’re probably eager to learn more. Interest is one of the strongest indicators of readiness.

2. They enjoy being around other kids.
Camp is about more than sports—it’s also about community. If your child loves group activities, team play, or even just making new friends, they’ll likely thrive at a camp setting.

3. They’re open to trying new things—even if they’re nervous.
Your child doesn’t have to be fearless to be ready. In fact, it’s totally normal for kids to feel unsure. But if they’re willing to try something new with encouragement, camp can be the perfect place to build courage and confidence.

4. They need a positive outlet for energy.
Sports camp is a great fit for kids who are bouncing off the walls (and the couch cushions). Structured movement, team games, and time outdoors can help them channel that energy in a way that feels good.

5. You want to build their resilience, confidence, and character.
Even if they don’t become the next superstar athlete, our camps give your child something far more valuable—opportunities to learn how to try, how to fail, how to make friends, and how to grow.

The Kuyper Sports Difference:

Our summer camps are designed for kids of all experience levels. We focus on growth, kindness, courage, and fun, not just competition. Whether your child is new to sports or already loves to play, they’ll be welcomed, challenged, and supported.
