Behind the Scenes: What a Day at Kuyper Sports Summer Camp Looks Like
Share
When parents are first learning about our summer sports camps I'm usually met with lots of questions about what goes on, what the activities are, and what they can expect. So this post is to help answer some of our most asked questions to help calm nerves and reassure you that our summer camps will be a positive and fun experience for you and your kids.
When your child walks into Kuyper Sports Summer Camps, they’re not just stepping into another sports program—they’re entering a community that cheers them on, challenges them, and helps them grow into the best version of themselves.
Yes, we play hard and compete. But more than anything, we’re creating a space where kids can be confident, kind, and brave competitors.
So… what does a day at Kuyper Camp actually look like? Here’s a behind-the-scenes look:
Monday Morning: Check-In + First-Day Energy
Our week kicks off with registration check-in, meeting coaches, receiving our exclusive camp shirt as a first time camper, and helping new kids feel right at home. First-timers quickly see that this is a place where they belong—and returning campers dive right back in like they never left.
Every Morning: Free Play + Team Huddles
Each day starts with free play in the gym as campers arrive—music playing, balls bouncing, friendships starting. Then, we bring everyone together for a team huddle where we go over the daily schedule, rules, and reminders that set the tone for the day. We make sure every kid feels safe, included, and excited to be here. We talk about things like: trying your best, encouraging your teammates, making it a safe place for everyone, and being a healthy and kind competitor.
Making Teams
After we huddle up, campers are split into two main groups:
Younger kids (ages 5–8) & Older kids (ages 9–14)
Each group is broken into smaller teams—and here’s where the fun begins. Every team creates their own silly, ridiculous, and totally original team name for the week. (Think “Flaming Hot Pickles” or “Fluffy Unicorns”-- yes these are real life names from past campers!)
Morning Games: Baseball + Dodgeball
Mornings kick off with our two favorite games: baseball and dodgeball—played Kuyper-style. Each game is centered around effort, trying, and encouragement. We’ve designed our formats to make sure every child gets involved and every teammate is celebrated. Coaches are watching not just for scores, but for how kids show up.
Snack + Connection Break
After morning games, we take a short break to recharge—water, snacks, and connection time. We ask campers to put away phones and devices so they can be fully present, connect with teammates, and get the most out of their experience. This break helps them reset, laugh with friends, and build relationships that matter.
More Games + Silly Competitions
Post-snack, the fun continues with a mix of games and goofy competitions—some of which we’ve made up over the years and kids request every single summer. These moments are some of favorites: loud laughter, funny challenges, and coaches jumping in right alongside the kids.
Lunch + Swimming (Tues –Thurs)
When our second set of games are done we then gather for lunch. And from Tuesday to Thursday, we switch things up with an hour of swimming, divided by age group. Some kids splash and play outside, while others opt for gym time if they’d rather stay dry. Either way, it’s a fun change of pace and a summer highlight.
Afternoon Games + Healthy Competition
Afternoons wrap with more games like football, soccer, sometimes pickleball--some new, some classic Kuyper creations kids never forget. Every moment is designed to help kids laugh, move, try new things, and grow.
We keep scoreboards not just for wins, but for things like: kindness shown, effort made, trying something new, encouragement and participation.
This is what healthy competition looks like: rewarding not just performance, but character.
Friday: Awards + What Really Matters
At the end of the week, we tally team points and host a short, fun awards ceremony.
Yes—we celebrate wins and game scores. But what we love most is honoring: sportsmanship, growth, courage, & the ways kids showed up for each other.
Parents are often surprised by how much their child takes away from camp—confidence, friendships, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
It’s More Than a Camp. It’s a Place to Grow.
We created Kuyper Sports Camp to be a place where kids can move their bodies, challenge their minds, and grow their hearts.
Whether your child is a natural athlete or just looking for something fun this summer—they’ll be welcomed, encouraged, and seen here.
